The UC San Diego Basic Writing Program is designed to help you master the critical thinking, reading, and writing skills that will enable you to succeed at the university and in your professional lives.
We offer two courses for those who have not yet met the university’s Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR):
In our writing courses, you can expect to:
- read and analyze challenging and interesting essays
- explore these essays with your classmates in lively discussions
- write and revise frequently, based on thoughtful feedback from your instructors and peers
- acquire the foundational skills that will enable you to enroll in your College Writing courses
Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) Reservations
The earlier you take the AWPE, the earlier you will receive your result to enroll in ELWR 1, ELWR 2A or your college writing class.
Please read the Event Details before making your AWPE reservation.
